One of the most prestigious awards of the

Artist of the Year, went to Stephan Jenkins, Third Eye Blind's singer
and chief songwriter. The group was also honored for the outstanding
single for "Jumper" and as the outstanding group.
Third Eye Blind were top dogs at the
California Music Awards for the second
straight year. The Bay Area quartet took home two trophies Saturday, for Best
Group and Best Single ("Jumper"). Singer Stephan Jenkins won Artist of the
Year as a write-in. Accepting his award, Jenkins told the crowd at San

Third Eye Blind and Metallica headed the list
of California Music Award, or
Cammie Award, winners, which were revealed in a ceremony this past Saturday
(March 13), reports the San Francisco Examiner. The awards were renamed from
the Bammie (Bay Area Music Awards) a few years ago. Third Eye Blind were the
big winners with three awards. Singer Stephan Jenkins was honored with
California Artist Of The Year, and the band took awards for Outstanding Single
("Jumper") and Outstanding Group. Guitarist Kevin Cadogan said that the
Cammies hold greater significance to the band than any of the national awards
such as AMAs or the Grammys: ["The Bammies are special for me, or the Cammies,
because it's closer to home. It's like your friends and stuff, stuff, put in
your name in the ballot. There's something really special about that."]
Metallica took home two awards, with the band's Lars Ulrich winning
Outstanding Drummer and their album Re-Load honored as Outstanding Hard Rock
Album Of The Year. The Bill Graham Lifetime Achievement Award went to rappers
Dr. Dre and Ice Cube, and the Arthur M. Cohut Award, (honoring community
service and excellence in performance) went to Bonnie Raitt.
